Windows 7 Sensors
Two screenshots of the Windows 7 Control Panel were recently released and one of the features that immediately caught my eye is a new function called Windows Sensors. With it, programs on your computer can communicate with your Windows compatible sensors. Let's check it out!
Listed in the same menu are Windows Media Player and the Windows Live Inbox. The screen also contains a Gadgets section, which shows all of your installed gadgets. It seems to be a new way of communication between applications that are running in Windows 7 and gadgets that are connecting to the computer.
Windows Sensors was one of the first new functions spotted in one of the early builds of Windows 7. So, what exactly are the sensors and what is their function in the new operating system? Well, Windows 7 will support both hardware and software sensors. Hardware sensors are devices, such as a microphone, accelerometer or motion detector. On the other hand, software based sensors can, for example, react on information received from a network or the Internet. Microsoft published a list of possible sensors, their placement and typical use, which you can see below:
The list contains both sensors that are built in to the computer or attached to a person and sensors that communicate remotely with Windows 7
